Exciting times for me... my birthday was yesterday and I am now the very proud owner of ....

a spangly bangle from my gorgeous son Charlie. He came to help me clear vases at The Elvetham last week and I gave him a little pocket money. As I was opening my present on Friday morning he said 'Mummy, you'll be so pleased with me, it only cost 50p' I love that he is a bargain hunter at such an early age, saving money on me enabled him to buy a lovely new cardi and a pair of sunglasses for himself (not sure when he will be wearing them) - and he still had change from a fiver. You probably guessed that he was in the fabulous Primarni!!

The other exciting pressie was an iphone, which I think is already transforming my work. I tweeted my first photo today from the venue and it means you can see a lot more of my work by following me on twitter - @emmalappin. It also means I can send immediate responses to any questions you might have on e-mail.

Stay tuned - more pictures from a very elegant wedding we did today

Well, I have to say, my opening wedding of 2010 was very special indeed. Miranda had chosen orchids for her scheme, having lived in Singapore in her younger years and therefore her bouquet was going to be really exciting for me to make as they are a favourite of mine. We used blue magic vanda orchids, fully wired, with just a few diamate gems to sparkle in the candle light. It was stunning. I hope to have some better pictures of Miranda and her bouquet (will be badgering the nice photographer for use of his photos) but at least I am giving you a sneek peak.

Her bridesmaids were seriously gorgeous in midnight blue dresses ( a colour that is so the new black for winter weddings!). They held wired cymbidium orchid posies.

We used white phalaenopsis orchids in two large displays either side of the fireplace and cymbidium pew ends that we later put around the staircase. The library was decorated with a mix of high and low arrangements and in total over 200 candles. The effect was absolutely stunning and my pictures don't do it justice but am hoping nice photographer man will be able to assist here!!

A big thank you to the wonderful Andrew at the Elvetham who lit every candle!

There are a lot more pictures to show you but wanted to share the first batch with you as promised.

Thank goodness it has warmed up a little this week. It is so difficult to get certain flowers to bloom at the right time and I have been nurturing amarylis for a week to ensure they were perfect for a rather special birthday party this evening. The cold makes everything want to stay in bud.

So I have spent the last week up and down to London, buying some lovely new vases and inspecting all the beautiful spring flowers in the market. Stars of the week were the most perfect hellebores and seeing magnolia for the first time this year.

I have been working on a gorgeous ice themed birthday party and wanted to share some pictures with you. Just to continue my previous blog on 'a wreath is not just for Christmas' - this is a wreath we made to welcome guests to the party.

The client wanted to surprise her friends as they walked into the first marquee. We lined the walls with silver sticks and lit them with blue light. Dry ice was used to add an air of mystery. We also made a central arrangement of silver birch and used the branches to hang sparkly crystals, white avalanche roses, dendrobium orchids and the table plans.

The pergola was incorporated into the marquee and we decorated it with fairy lights which made a great entrance into the sit down area.

We used the most gorgeous roses for the table decorations, displayed in vases of differing heights. The tallest vase had a floating rose with orchids submerged under the water. We also used coloured water with submerged lights and floating candles, and further vases with crystals and roses. Each female guest had a votive with a sweet avalanche rose and doubled as a gift to take home.

The tables looked stunning when lit, we were thrilled with the results.

So the end of the snowiest week in my lifetime and whilst I have had my children at home and not been able to do a great deal of work, I have been thinking about the latest trends that we are seeing for 2010. I have had loads of new enquiries following the launch of my new website but unfortunately I have had to cancel a number of appointments, so I am really sorry if you have been affected.

The first thing I always look at to inspire my floral designs are the new bridal collections and I wanted to share with you my inspiration this year.

Alice Temperley - Long Jean Dress

Temperley Long Jean Dress

I really love this dress. It is 1940's inspired, extremely glamourous and has the most exquisite jewelled embellishments at the waist and shoulders and perfect for the bride who wants to cover her arms. Slinky and sparkling you need to think carefully about your flowers.

Jenny Packham - Seraphina

Jenny Packham - Seraphina

I have been fortunate enough to work with a number of Jenny Packham brides and am always mesmerised by the dresses. This dress from her latest collection has a new depth, with the volume of material she is using for a layered look whilst still keeping fairly streamlined

Philipa Lepley 2010 Collection

I think many girls will love this, it takes the ruffle trend but keeps it simple and structured. A very striking dress that is surprisingly flattering. A simple, delciate posy of flowers is all you will need to accompany this beautiful dress.

I will be showing my latest bouquet designs at my upcoming wedding fairs and thank you Alice Temperley, Jenny Packham and Philipa Lepley for your wonderful inspiration.

Just half a day away from 2010 and I should really be preparing vegetables for my dinner party tonight, but instead I am sat here thinking about what 2010 might have in store for me.

When midnight strikes tonight I shall have on my 5 inch killer heels and be booting my year out of the door. It's been an interesting year for many of us and thrown up plenty of challenges, but along the way I have had the pleasure of working with some really wonderful people and have seen some stunning weddings, which is always good for the soul. Part of my wanting to see the back of 2009 is that I am so excited about 2010. I have been working on some really great ideas and can't wait to start my flower calendar with a beautiful orchid wedding at the Elvetham and an 'Ice' themed 40th birthday party in January.

Whilst chatting to my wonderful friend 'Hatty' about New Years Eve, she mentioned that I should Feng Shui my hall so that 2009 can escape quickly and be fully prepared to let the New Year in. I have since researched it and found out that I need to clear away any clutter from the door, empty all the bins, polish the surfaces and open all the windows. With that in mind I really need to get going with this. I will be back in the next couple of days with my star dresses for 2010, trends for schemes and colours for your wedding and styling ideas for your reception.

Happy New Year everyone!!
